It's a good while since I've posted here! Leave it to me to get sidetracked for weeks straight.
Not too much has gone on, because I'm unemployed and don't leave the house. So let's just talk about what music I've been listening to for the past few weeks or so.
All last month, I had been trying to listen to more bands/artists I never heard before, and listening through more full albums of bands I already liked but didn't dig too far into.
The new(to me) bands that I listened to were: Daisy Chainsaw, Scarling., Missalina Rei, Everyone Asked About You, Jejune, VELTPUNCH, the god and death stars, Eldritch Anisette, 125, rue montemarte, and Endive
I started listening to Jejune, Endive, rue montemarte and eventually Everyone Asked About You, because I wanted to find some emo bands with female vocalists. I'm genuinely so surprised that these bands aren't more popular because their sound and lyrics are great. Especially the vocals! All the female fronted emo bands I've listed tend to have a softer, more baby-voiced (not to a fake, annoying extent) vocal style and it really compliments the emotional lyrics.
The god and death stars, VELTPUNCH, and Missalina Rei are all J-rock bands, albeit three very different sounding ones. Veltpunch is an alternative rock/indie type of band. God and death stars and Missalina Rei are on different sides of the visual kei spectrum, with The god and death stars being Nagoya kei and Missalina Rei being kote kei.
Tbh I'm kind of iffy on MsR because the recording quality is so crusty and the vocals are also somewhat rough. They might grow on me, because I like other Key Party bands but idk.
The god and death stars' albums Addle Apple and Tonight is the Night are bangers, but all of their newer albums are only on apple music so I haven't been able to listen to them at all yet. (So many Japanese bands are only on apple music omfgggg)
Now for the bands who I've already been listening to, but maybe not so in depth are: Deadman, Plastic Tree, blink-182, Supercar, exist†trace, Coal Chamber, Jack Off Jill, The Ataris, ECO VIRTUAL, Friendly Donut Shop, pitbull jones, AmmaKasie noKa, and the Alice: Madness Returns OST
A lot of these bands I LOVE and have been completely dominating my last.fm charts.
Blink is almost always near the top because They have so many solid full length albums, I almost never wind up not listening to at least one of their albums. Usually it's either Dude Ranch or Enema of the State, but I recently listened to Cheshire and you can definitely see how they transitioned from punk to pop over time. The rhythms and melodies are all really good, and like other blink albums, a lot of the songs are just funny as hell. The song touchdown boy will likely stay in my regular rotation.
Jack Off Jill got 30+ scrobbles almost as soon as I found them. Their album Clear hearts, Gray flowers is for the most part, banger after banger.
I've listened to Vivica ten times already. They say the optimal length in order for a song to be the catchiest possible is 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Vivica is double that length, at about five minutes and I think the theory might be true, because this song gets stuck in your head.
And funnily enough, Clear hearts, Gray flowers is produced by Chris Vrenna, who did work on the Alice: Madness Returns soundtrack, which is currently sitting at 21 scrobbles.
The stats above are only from the last week, as I don't pay for last.fm.
I've written so much and I didn't even touch on everything... But go stream Friendly Donut Shop and Pitbull Jones on Spotify because they're small artists and they make really good music. TY, goodnight.
